Helping wildlife this November
Life is a highway
The cold is starting to bite so many animals will settle in for winter. For those animals who stay awake all through winter you can create a highway for them. Many of these animals like to travel but often our gardens are so secure they can’t move to the next place. By leaving a small gap under a fence, they will be able to continue their travels.
Did you know?
Every part of the yew tree is loaded with toxins, except for the pretty, bright poisonous seed, but blackbirds swallows the whole fruit, seed and all. Fortunately for them, the seed passes out in their droppings, still intact. This is one of the main ways for yew trees to spread.
Birds of a feather
Take time and look closer at swirling clouds of crows gathering to roost in the evening. You may well see carrion crows, rooks and jackdaws, all together. It’s not just for safety reasons; there’s evidence that they use these gathering to share intelligence on where to find their breakfast!
