Keep the colour going all summer long

Just because some earlier flowers have faded doesn’t mean your garden has to! July, August and September can be some of the most colourful months in the garden with the right mix of plants.

Late summer is when many favourites really come into their own. Penstemons, salvias, echinaceas, rudbeckias, crocosmias, asters and hydrangeas all provide fantastic colour well into autumn, while ornamental grasses add movement and texture as the seasons begin to change.

If your borders are looking a little tired, don’t worry. Adding a few fresh plants or colourful containers filled with dahlias, pelargoniums or late-flowering perennials is a quick way to give your garden a new lease of life.

To keep your plants performing at their best:

• ✂️ Deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers.
• 💧 Water deeply during dry spells, especially new plants.
• 🌿 Feed flowering plants in pots every couple of weeks.
• 🌸 Cut back tired early-flowering perennials to encourage fresh growth.
